Mike Lane Wins Cobbtown and sets National Record.
Lane and Lee take top three spots in BADD ALL-STAR SERIES opener.
Cobbtown, Georgia is the place where Mike Lane won the Season Opener in ATTITUDE, with a time of 2.122 seconds and also set the BADD 200ft National E.T. Record, starting the PRO BADD 2.1 Second Club. Mike laid down a full, hard charging pass early in the class that left the rest of the field chasing him the rest of the afternoon.

The first set of cars was Chuck Courty in MUD MISSILE and Bob Dunham in ROLLING THUNDER. Chuck’s pass, a 2.256, to Bob’s 2.267 was a very close race. Bob had a great pass, but in the shut down area he got sideways and rolled 6 times. Bob’s pass placed him 6th in the overall event. Chuck put down a 2.185 on his second pass to place him 4th overall and he also joined the PRO BADD 2.1 Second Club.
The second set of cars was Mike Lane in ATTITUDE and Shawn Barber driving BACK N BLACK. This was Mike’s winning pass, 2.122 to Shawn’s 2.303. Mike’s second pass was a 2.369. Shawn was finished for the weekend with engine trouble. His 2.303 placed him 8th. Shawn knew something was wrong and scratched as he checked out the engine, finding that he had valve train problems. Good catch, Shawn!
Next up was Mark Lee, driving his TIME BANDIT, and Eric Hutto in his POLITICALLY INCORRECT. Mark pedaled a 2.286 for 7th place to Eric’s 2.307 which placed him in 9th. On Mark’s 2ND pass in the TIME BANDIT, he checked out how good JR had the guard rail put in as he rode down the last 1/3 of it. Good job JR! Sorry it’s a little bowed now!
Gary O'Steen with Gary Baker
Jeff Goldizen, driving his new GROUND POUNDER, and Gary Reddick in TOUCH OF MADNESS were the next set to run. Jeff ran a 3.640, for the first pass ever put on the car.
Gary peddled his car to a 2.833. On Gary’s second pass, he laid down a 2.252 to place 5th over all. Good pass Gary!
The next pairing, two of Mud Racing’s legendary cars, DIRTY BIRD and MAD MAX, was one that could have taken you back two decades to 1989! Mark O’Steen has taken over the driving from his dad, Gary O’Steen, “one of our sport’s living legends”. Two years ago, Gary had a violent crash and decided it was time to turn the driving over to his son. Gary is still at all the races and is the crew chief for the now-named Dad’s DIRTY BIRD. Mark pedaled the car to a 2.367 for 11th place and his second run was a 2.516, with his Ford over horse powering the track again. Ennis Thomas, another of our living legends, ran a 2.393 in MAD MAX, placing 12th.He scratched his second pass.
The next set was Mark Lee, in PURE ENERGY, and Mike Lane, driving WILD CHERRY. Mark cut a good light and was able to pedal the car to 2.141 for second place, putting him in the PRO BADD 2.1 Second Club. Mark scratched his second pass. Mike ran a time of 2.167 for third on his first pass. He also scratched his second pass.
Mark Lee 2.141 E.T. in PURE ENERGY
Ennis had a bye run with his WAR WAGON and on his first run turned in a 2.349. His second pass was a 2.310 to place 10th.
The competition was fierce and the track was hard to read, as many competitors never got in a full-throttle pass. They say “the cream always rises to the top” and this weekend was no exception as Mike Lane took ATTITUDE to the #1 spot in the PRO BADD Season Opener at Cobbtown.
All of the members of PRO BADD would like to thank J.R. Laird and crew, their families, and the safety crew at Cobbtown for a job WELL DONE!
See Ya at the next ALL-STAR SERIES National event in Charleston, MS on May 2nd, 2009!
